Growth in students and program - Homework Club Update

This is so cool, three of our Homework club students, all middle schoolers, were shoveling snow outside our building during the snowstorm we had a week and a half ago. I love seeing the entrepreneurial skills coupled with hard work!

We view this kind of behavior as a success and that our Homework Club is helping to support the next generation. 

Here's what some people have asked: What do we do at Homework Club to help the kids thrive?

We provide a safe space for them to learn and grow. We help children with their homework because we want them to excel in their education, but it also includes so much more! We teach a Bible lesson to the kids, provide them with a snack, play educational games with them and do physical activities to help get energy out and strengthen their bodies.

It is a very rambunctious group of kids who trickle in by ones and twos on Wednesday afternoons. A few kids are shy but there’s a lot of energy as we start off with exercising. 

Rachelle, one of the leaders said, “They ask amazing questions during Bible study! We are going through the Bible from beginning to end, hitting the big stories. At the end we tie it back to Jesus.”

We would love to create a group of young entrepreneurs who love Jesus and are academically excelling. 

One way our Homework Club is growing is the curriculum. We are in the process of introducing lessons on healthy money management. We’ll create 3 brief workshops on budgeting, debt and savings. The kids will walk away with the key things to know in each discipline. 

The treasurer for Greenhouse Project, Jared Young, is going to be leading the money workshops later this school year. He has been serving on our board since 2021 and has an MBA from Wharton at the University of Penn. With 27+ years of experience in Financial Services focused in Consumer Lending and roles in finance, marketing, business, and technology he has a lot to offer to these kids!

Our Homework Club is a commitment to partner with local families to deliver accessible homework help, learning disciplines, mentorship and long-term consistency to at-risk youth on our streets. We want these children to feel our love for them and become lifelong explorers of truth.

We consider it a privilege to highlight small successes, and growth that takes place through daily or weekly interactions. God has continued to be faithful.
