Project Clean-up a Success!

Waking up the Saturday of Project Clean-up last month, a day we set out to clean the trash overwhelming our streets and connect with neighbors, we knew it was going to be a busy day. We truly had no idea how God would use our time. Somewhere around 8am Emily and I started hearing weird pinging sounds coming from outside. Although our event wasn't scheduled to start until 12:30pm, our neighbors were already out removing stuff from their households and yards and dropping it in the dumpster first thing in the morning! We were shocked.

With over 25 volunteers coming out to help, and the community coming together, we filled a full 30 yard dumpster in just a few hours. We were able to remove 7,800 pounds of trash from just one block.

The trash clean up time was a unifying effort as almost every neighbor stepped outside to be involved, even folks we haven’t met yet. It was a unique time where many pitched in and everyone watched the space around us transform and get beautified. Our teams went door to door to pray with neighbors. Everyone was so encouraged. This was truly an amazing, awe inspiring day.

In recent months, we’ve heard from many neighbors wanting to have these accumulating trash dump sites cleaned up but they couldn't do it themselves. It was a simple ask: let’s clean up our street together so the neighborhood can look nice for all families. And the common goal turned into a valuable time of connection, working together and enjoying the fruit of our labor.
