God is working on the west side of Chester

It has been several months since the launch of our newest outreach for Greenhouse Project and we are excited to share how God is working on the west side of Chester. This project had months of planning but we are excited to already see an impact!

The 912House is our first extension ministry of Greenhouse Project.  Pastor Donny and his wife Rachelle officially moved in on January 1, 2023 to Champion our Urban missionary Church and reach a new neighborhood. Their desire is, “to have really good conversations about the gospel with neighbors that don't know the Lord.”

They, like Emily and myself, want to live where they serve and build relationships with their neighbors. Living out their faith with a strong desire to show the love of Christ and preach the gospel.

The launch in June went smoothly with a Prayer and Community clean-up day, Sunday worship, and food outreach for those in need.

Something incredibly encouraging about the launch is how happy people in the community are to have a church moving in. We have met a lot of our neighbors and they are so excited to have us there. This is a huge blessing to have open doors to begin planting seeds and getting involved in people’s lives.

This being said, we do not want to gloss over the tough things. So many people we connect with ask for prayer for safety. The 9th & Highland area is known for being a high crime area. We constantly see drug activity, hear shootings, and have EMS services in our community. That is exactly why we feel called to this area.

God called us to this ministry for a purpose. To Bring Salvation and Hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The 912House is our home, and we are here to love our neighbors.

So here are our weekly activities: Tuesday Food outreach and Sunday Night Church.

The food outreach is every Tuesday at 11am,  and we have been able to help over 35 individuals weekly in our community!

We host Church every Sunday Night at 6pm. We start with prayer and dinner, followed by Worship and Bible teaching. This is a time to go a bit deeper into our text, ask questions and fellowship. Come and visit us!

We have had a God appointed interaction almost every week since we started. A recent Sunday a local man came who is in active drug addiction seeking freedom, fellowship and food.

Speaking of food, something as simple as pizza can open doors for conversation. Who doesn’t like pizza after all?

After church one Sunday evening there was extra pizza left over so Rachelle and a friend went out to find someone to bless with it. They were walking the streets of the west side of Chester and a group of teen boys and girls came up to them unexpectedly. While it was rather surprising to be suddenly surrounded by kids, the kids were simply excited about the food. They were able to engage them with friendly conversation and the kids even offered to walk them back to the house in hopes of more pizza and got to meet Pastor Donny in the process.

This is the kind of interaction that we are excited to have. Building relationships with our neighbors and sharing food. Food has a way of bringing people together and the more we get to know them the more ways we can bless them and share the gospel with them.

As this extension ministry grows we are praying to add in an after school program on the west side to reach out to the kids on the block.

Here are some ongoing prayer requests as the 912House continues to grow and serve the community.

Pray for Wisdom as we face new challenges and crisis situations.

  • Pray for new leaders and volunteers. As we grow, we pray for more help, especially for Homework Club support.

  • Pray for open doors, open hearts and filled tables as we are always building new relationships.

  • Pray for Sunday Night Church. We meet every Sunday at 6pm. Come and visit -  we start with dinner! Reminder, street parking only.

We are here because of your prayers and donations to help launch our first extension campus. Here are some ways you can help us as we continue to grow on the west side of Chester.

  • Volunteer - Sunday Church, Tuesday Food Outreach, Regular evangelism and outreach, after school program for kids
